Virginia teen shot to death after entering wrong home after night of partying; parents forgive neighbor who pulled the trigger

"I just want you to know I forgive you. I understand this was an accident," Jennae Gordley, mother of 16-year-old Caleb Gordley, told reporters Tuesday when asked what she would say to the neighbor who pulled the trigger, according to local station
"I do too," Caleb's father, Shawn Gordley, said.

Caleb Gordley, a popular athlete and musician who attended Park View High School in Sterling, was mistaken for a burglar when he was gunned down in a home two doors away from where his father lived, the Loudon County Sherriff's office said.
The boy had sneaked out on Saturday night to go drinking with friends, authorities said.
He returned home early Sunday and hopped a fence into what he thought was his dad's yard.

The homes have similar yards and layouts, authorities said.
After climbing through a window -- and setting off an alarm --- he made his way to the second floor, where he was shot by the homeowner,
Shawn Gordley said he did not blame the shooter, but was angry with Loudoun County authorities for not giving him and his ex-wife more information in the aftermath of the tragedy.

"I'm praying he wasn't scared at that moment," Shawn Gordley said, according to the station.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said they were investigating the incident. The shooter wasn't identified. No charges were filed, and the sheriff's office hasn't said whether any will be filed.
